A Message to Our Parents
Thank you for the opportunity to share with you, the syllabus for kindergarten at Sacred Heart School. As you examine the academic outcomes for our students, it should be stated that it is the goal of our program to gracefully allow the students to grow in confidence and maturity, while demonstrating growth academically as well. Students entering kindergarten come from vastly different instructional backgrounds depending on the programs or experiences they have been exposed to. The students will gain a respect for the other students of Sacred Heart School, for the rules that make our school both a safe and educational environment, and the adults that work within our school community.
The kindergarten curriculum overlaps several concepts throughout different subject matters. Students are exposed to the fundamental academic goals in a variety of settings, in order to ensure understanding and mastery of key concepts. Storytelling and role-playing are wonderful ways to expose the students to concepts in a fun and age appropriate manner. Students also learn in whole group and small group setting, which are often centered around an art project, puzzle, or game. As the year progresses students will be expected to sit for longer periods of time to attend to more formal written work throughout the day. As kindergarten teachers we realize that this year maybe the first time your child has been away from you for a full day. We endeavor to make this transition as easy for you and your child as we can. Please accept our invitation to write notes, or e-mail us with any questions or concerns regarding classroom or school policy, or your child’s individual progress as they arise throughout the year. We will always respond in writing, or by phone as the situation sees fit. It is our plan to make the year a fun and productive experience for all. Welcome to Kindergarten at Sacred Heart School! |
